Securities Donation Form

Give the Gift of Securities

There’s a particular kind of Canadian who keeps a stock portfolio and a soft spot for good causes in the same filing cabinet. If that’s you, this page is worth two minutes of your time.
Donating publicly traded stocks, mutual funds, or other securities directly to HIP is one of the most tax-smart ways to support the Y2Y Experience – and it’s simpler than most people expect. No broker call at 4:45 on a Friday required.

Why Securities, and Why Now

When you donate appreciated securities directly to a registered charity — instead of selling them first and donating the cash – Canadian tax law lets you skip the capital gains tax on that growth entirely. You still receive a charitable tax receipt for the full fair market value on the day of transfer. Same generosity, less friction, more of your gift actually reaches the fire circle.

(This is general information, not financial advice — your advisor or accountant will know how it applies to your specific holdings.)

Step 1: Give us a heads-up

Let us know you’re transferring securities. A quick email to finance@HIPAlly.com with the security name and approximate number of shares helps us watch for it and thank you properly, not just log a mystery deposit.

HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples)
Registered charity #885709212 RR0001

Step 2: Fill out the CanadaHelps form

It’s short, and it automatically produces a “letter of direction” — the document your broker needs to act.

Step 3: Sign it and send it to your broker

Your broker or financial institution transfers the shares – not cash – from your account to CanadaHelps.

Step 4: CanadaHelps sells the security

They handle the sale, deduct a small handling fee, and transfer the proceeds to HIP.

Step 5: You get your receipt

A charitable tax receipt arrives for the full market value, based on the closing price the day the shares reached CanadaHelps.

Step 6: We put it to work

We put your donation to work: it gets a Youth to the fire, pays the Elder who’s waiting there,, keeps the whole thing free and helps build for the future.
