Let’s Build this together

Two solitudes.
One fire.

Reconciliation doesn’t happen in boardrooms or policy papers. It happens between people
– one relationship, one gathering, one honest conversation at a time. That’s the work HIP
has been doing for twelve years.

“Reconciliation is not an Aboriginal problem.
It is a Canadian one.”

Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Final Report

Reconciliation isn’t what we talk about. It’s how we’re built.

HIP – Honouring Indigenous Peoples – is a registered Canadian charitable corporation founded in 2014. We bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples together to build understanding, foster respect, and create lasting change across Canada.

Our belief is a simple one: reconciliation begins with relationships. A lot of organizations talk about that. We built our governance around it.

We’ve spent more than a decade on the road – visiting, listening, building programs based on what communities actually need rather than what we assume. We don’t guess. We ask. Then we deliver.

Residential schools removed Indigenous children from their families, languages, and cultures. That harm runs deep and continues across generations. The fact that Indigenous communities choose to work alongside us – and entrust us with their youth – is something we hold as a responsibility, not an entitlement.

50/50.

Our Board of Directors is Indigenous and non-Indigenous, gender-balanced and geographically diverse – a working example of the future we’re building toward, not just a mission statement about it.
Today, more Indigenous youth apply to
HIP’s Y2Y Gatherings than non-Indigenous
youth. Given Canada’s history, that’s not
a small thing.
One Fire Canada

Every alumni leaves inspired.
This campaign makes sure that doesn’t stop at the airport.

Over the past decade, HIP has proven the model works. Meaningful relationships between Indigenous and
non-Indigenous youth create lasting change. The question before us now isn’t whether it works.

The question is: what happens next?

Over the next five years, HIP is raising $2.5 million to expand nationally, strengthen
organizational capacity, and support the next 250 youth through the Y2Y Experience.
Five-year capacity campaign, 2026–2031

$2.5M

Youth Leadership Bursaries for alumni pursuing education and training, plus Youth-Initiated Project Funding — seed money and mentorship for youth-led reconciliation and environmental initiatives. This campaign also builds the foundation for HIP to become a truly youth-led organization.

Permanent endowment, long-term vision

$10M

One fire can light countless others without diminishing its own flame. Fully funded, this endowment would generate roughly $400,000–$500,000 annually – a perpetual source of support for youth leadership & reconciliation, forever. It’s a lofty goal. It’s worthy of the young people we serve.
