As Executive Director of REACH Edmonton Council for Safe Communities, Jan Fox is a collaborative leader who believes that the strongest solutions emerge from empowered communities. Her work has helped shape provincial and national responses to human trafficking, community safety, and crime prevention, always grounded in partnership, innovation, and respect.
Jan played a pivotal role in establishing the Alberta Office to Combat Trafficking in Persons and co-founded the #NotInMyCity Provincial Network, which she now co-chairs. She also served on the Alberta Human Trafficking Task Force, contributing her expertise to policy, prevention, and the protection of vulnerable populations.
Beyond her work at REACH, Jan is deeply engaged in national and international networks focused on safety and peacebuilding. She co-chairs the Canadian Municipal Network on Crime Prevention (CMNCP), represents Edmonton in the global Peace in Our Cities initiative, and leads the new Rotary Indigenous Committee, strengthening relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. She also serves as a consultant with the Robcan Group, supporting organizations in governance, strategy, and community engagement.
Earlier in her career, Jan managed labour relations for the Government of Canada and served as Warden of the Edmonton Institution for Women, where she founded Women in Police and Corrections – a first-of-its-kind initiative to advance leadership and equity within the justice system.
Her contributions to public service and community well-being have been widely recognized. Jan is the recipient of the YWCA Lois E. Hole Lifetime Achievement Award, the Women of Vision Award, the Association of Professional Executives of the Public Service of Canada Partnership Award, and honours from the Institute of Public Administration of Canada.
As a member of HIP’s Board, Jan brings decades of experience in community safety, justice, partnership-building, and reconciliation-focused leadership. Her commitment to respectful collaboration and systemic change strengthens HIP’s mission to support Indigenous youth, build meaningful relationships, and create safer, more connected communities across Canada.
