John Currie

John W. Currie is a visionary leader at the forefront of inspiring Indigenous and Non-Indigenous relationship building, and he serves as the Executive Director of HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples). What started as a southern Ontario start-up has flourished into a nationwide movement, gaining international recognition for its transformative work.

In addition to his pivotal role at HIP, John is a community-oriented individual with a deep commitment to service. He has served as the President of the Rotary Club of Pickering, showcasing his dedication to making a positive impact in his community.

John’s expertise extends beyond his leadership at HIP and Rotary. He has lent his knowledge and insight to the Cultural Advisory Committee for the City of Pickering, where he provides valuable guidance on community engagement and the provision of cultural services.

Throughout his career, John has excelled in directing organizational transformations for non-profits and social enterprises. He served as the Interim Executive Director for AGE Inc. and held the role of Chief Information Officer for the Ontario Safety Association of Community and Healthcare. His leadership qualities have also been recognized through his involvement as a founding member of the Toronto Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM) and his service on numerous board of directors.

John’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree from York University, which has laid a strong foundation for his professional journey. He is the proud recipient of several accolades, including the Pickering Rotary Club’s “Service Above Self” award, the 2021 City of Pickering Individual Volunteer Civic Award, the Rotary District 7070 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award, and the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow award.
