Oakville Ontario has created 60 km of trails that provide information plaques about the community’s history including two specifically that highlight Indigenous heritage.
The Sixteen Mile Creek Heritage Information Station and trail overlooks the flats where the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation once grew corn. It displays historical information for the time period 9000 BC – 1847.
The Mocassin Trails (on Bronte Creek Trail and Inner Valley Trail) feature 13 plaques with stories relating to the land, water and sky and provide an understanding of Indigenous heritage. This area was created in partnership with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations, the Moccasin Identifier and community members. For more information, please visit:
