The Rotary Club of Toronto Eglinton created in 2019 an annual award, the Supporting Aboriginal Graduate Enhancement (SAGE) Award. It was established by a generous donor and matched by the Presidents Awards to Champion Excellence (PACE) at Ryerson University to encourage Indigenous students to pursue graduate studies and increase the number of Indigenous Peoples entering careers in academia. Ryerson was selected as a partner because of its reputation for programs that join theory and practice. Two recipients a year each receive $15,000 toward their studies.
The SAGE Awards demonstrate the Rotary values of service to the community and demonstrate how life-changing Rotary work can be to promote international understanding and the spirit of giving.
The 2021 SAGE recipients were introduced to club members in February 2022. Members are always excited to hear the goals, hopes and experiences of the winners.
Carrie Davis is enrolled in her first year of the Master of Fine Arts (MFA)-Documentary Media Program. Bethany Pittman (MSC) is a PHD Candidate in Mathematical Modelling Methods Program in the Faculty of Science. Both shared personal stories with their education journeys.
We wish them both continued success in their education journeys!
