Indigenous Mobile Health Unit Combines Traditional and Modern Medicine for Treatment

Anishnawbe Health Toronto is pleased to be the recipient of a grant from The Rotary Club of Toronto Foundation. The health unit combines traditional forms of Indigenous medicine and practices along with modern medicine that offers the city’s homeless and most vulnerable access to traditional healers, elders, medicine people and a variety of practitioners.

The grant will support their mobile health units. Mobile units delivered health care at Indigenous community agencies and housing when travel on public transit was not safe for the community. The first mobile healing RV was launched in June 2020 to provide COVID-19 testing, wrap around health care services, housing support and, eventually, COVID-19 vaccinations. Specifically the grant will support the refitting of the mobile unit with equipment for mammograms and related testing.
