HIP expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez Minister of Canadian Heritage and the Department of Canadian Heritage for their partnership in making the 2023 HIP’s National Youth to Youth Truth and Reconciliation event a success.
The Youth Forums Canada grant made it possible for HIP to bring together fifty youths from across Canada with different backgrounds to engage in meaningful education and conversations about truth and reconciliation. Their support enabled a safe space for indigenous and non-indigenous youth to share their stories, learn from each other, and work together toward a better future.
We believe we are experiencing a historical moment in Canada. The discovery of the mass grave on the site of former residential schools offers chilling wrongs that have occurred against Indigenous Peoples. Finding these remains is a painful reminder of the injustice and the intergenerational impact it has had. The passage of time does not erase the suffering caused by residential schools to Indigenous communities, survivors, and their families.
This event has made a positive impact on the youth and those involved with the planning and delivery of the program. As everyone returns home, the impact extends into our communities where youth are giving presentations to service clubs and their schools on their experience. We are very grateful for your support in making it happen. It is truly inspiring to see the Department of Canadian Heritage investing in initiatives that promote truth and reconciliation.

HIP exprime sa gratitude sincère à l’honorable Pablo Rodriguez, ministre du Patrimoine canadien, ainsi qu’au ministère du Patrimoine canadien, pour leur partenariat qui a permis de faire du programme “Jeunesse à jeunesse : vérité et réconciliation” de HIP un succès en 2023.
La subvention de Youth Forums Canada a rendu possible la réunion de cinquante jeunes de partout au Canada, issus de différents milieux, pour s’engager dans une éducation et des conversations significatives sur la vérité et la réconciliation. Leur soutien a permis de créer un espace sécuritaire où les jeunes autochtones et non autochtones pouvaient partager leurs histoires, apprendre les uns des autres et travailler ensemble pour un avenir meilleur.
Nous croyons que nous vivons un moment historique au Canada. La découverte de la fosse commune sur le site d’anciens pensionnats offre une preuve glaçante des torts infligés aux peuples autochtones. Trouver ces restes est un rappel douloureux de l’injustice et de l’impact intergénérationnel qu’elle a eu. Le passage du temps n’efface pas les souffrances causées par les pensionnats pour les communautés autochtones, les survivants et leurs familles.
Cet événement a eu un impact positif sur les jeunes et ceux qui ont participé à la planification et à la mise en œuvre du programme. Alors que chacun rentre chez soi, cet impact se propage dans nos communautés, où les jeunes présentent leurs expériences dans des clubs de service et dans leurs écoles. Nous sommes très reconnaissants de votre soutien pour avoir rendu cela possible. Il est vraiment inspirant de voir le ministère du Patrimoine canadien investir dans des initiatives qui favorisent la vérité et la réconciliation.
