Lloyd Templeton has been selected as the 2024 Calgary Stampede Youth Poster Artist!
For the sixth year, the Calgary Stampede Poster Contest has engaged many Alberta youth to take part in a unique scholarship program that provides creative opportunities to develop as a painters and illustrators.
As a child, Lloyd remembers making his way from his suburban home to downtown Calgary to watch the Stampede Parade surrounded by the many floats, bands and horses riding through city streets. The day was filled with excitement and wonder. The Parade has been going since 1912 with the first parade lead by First Nations people of Treaty 7.
Lloyd’s poster features a collaboration with Stoney Nakoda Tipi Holder, Duane Mark riding the parade route alongside a diverse group of participants and spectators. Duane is a Stoney Nakoda language and cultural instructor and has a desire to preserve and share the language. A new special friendship has been made!
Congratulations Lloyd!
