Stepfanie Johnston Awarded Scholarship

In 2016, the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar initiated a Rotary scholarship to be awarded in co-ordination with the University of Sudbury to a mature Indigenous student entering second, third or fourth year. The scholarship provides $7,000/year until graduation. The Rotary Club of Burlington partnered and continues with support of the program.

Additional clubs are welcome to join and grow the scholarships for continued educational successes. Please contact the club for details.

Recipient Stepfanie Johnston (Anishinabe Kwe) from northern Ontario studied Indigenous Studies and Healing and Wellness. She was on the Dean’s List for academics and awarded two prestigious scholarships from the university. Following her studies she went on to the University of Toronto and is currently studying to be a medical doctor at McMaster. Stepfanie reflects “I could have never dreamed that I would have made it to medical school and eventually have the capacity to serve Indigenous communities as a physician. I would like to reiterate how important it is for Indigenous students to be granted these opportunities”.

We wish you continued success in your career Stepfanie!
